Effect of tweezing, waxing and threading on hair growth
People attempt to remove unwanted hair by tweezing, waxing or threading the unwanted growth.
When someone pulls a hair out by its root several things happen. A good portion of the bottom half of the follicle is torn out. The damage from removing the hair by its root is not sufficient to halt the growth of the hair but it is enough to cause the follicle to construct itself a little sturdier. The hair root develops a stronger and better capillary system (blood supply). Thus, each time a hair is pulled it becomes stronger, thicker, coarser, darker and more difficult hair to remove permanently.
Don’t let anyone tell you waxing, in particular, will help to permanently remove hair!!! What you are doing is making a bad situation worse. If your desire is to make stronger, darker, coarser hair go to the salon and get waxed.
Ways to stimulate hair growth
Increase blood supply:
We’ve discussed the effects of increased blood supply in the discussion on tweezing and waxing. Every time a hair is pulled out by its root the blood supply becomes better developed therefore making the hairs stronger and more difficult to manage.
Once a person begins to understand how and why hair growth is stimulated she should begin to understand that tweezing and waxing are very costly over a period of time and only make the unwanted hair situation worse. Electrolysis is the only approved permanent method of hair removal approved by the American Medical Association. Since the 1880’s when Dr. Charles Michel invented electrolysis, people have enjoyed permanent hair removal on all areas of their bodies.
Hormone stimulation:
Certain hormones have the capacity for initiating the growth of new hairs where none previously existed. The hormones can’t cause hairs to sprout from your eyeballs but they can bring to life certain cells near our oil (sebaceous) glands. These hair-germ cells are turned on by the chemical action of certain hormones. This action can accelerate hair growth. Thus, the action of certain hormones is capable of eventually creating coarse, pigmented hair where no hair had existed.
